The mandolin has found a home in many styles of music: Bluegrass, swing, jazz, old time, classical, folk and rock. Learn melodies in several keys by ear and with tablature. Because of its small scale and violin-like tuning, the mandolin is perfect for playing fiddle tunes and harmonized melodies. Guitarists will find that mandolin rhythm skills complement their existing technique. Take level 1 if you’ve had no experience and want the fundamentals such as proper wrist and pick technique, basic chords, and melodies. In Mandolin 2, work on closed chords and great rhythm challenges. Through songs, you’ll pick up fundamentals of improvisation when you learn double stops and scales, too. In level 3, get more complex fiddle tunes by ear and tab, advanced rhythm skills, and improv for a variety of settings.
