What makes a catchy melody get stuck in your ear? Why do some songs feel like we can immediately sing along even if we've never heard them?
In this workshop, we'll go over the basic building blocks of melody, and how to build them up into memorable tunes. These tools are useful for generating melody when you're stuck getting started, or crafting a revision of something with good bones that's just not quite hitting. We'll discuss melodic shape, melodic rhythm, repetition & variation, and contrast. No music theory background required, some experience writing songs recommended. Feel free to bring an instrument but we will mostly be singing!
