This class is specifically designed for fiddle and mandolin students who want to build, re-build, or maintain their playing skills. A repertoire of fiddle tunes and song melodies will be presented in written form and played on both fiddle and mandolin. Students will be taught techniques to memorize each example over the course of the eight week class. Students will gain an understanding of musical concepts such as intervals, harmony possibilities, and scale type (major, minor, modal) to deepen their grasp and understanding of the material covered in class. Students should be comfortable with musical passages that contain 1/8 note runs, string changes, and that cross over to the low and high strings. This class will prepare students to take solos, play instrumental fiddle tunes, memorize their repertoire, and give an overall more musical touch to their playing. Learning by ear and reading musical notation will both be utilized and strengthened in this class.
