Explore the most common types of Irish dance tunes played at sessions, including polkas and slides, jigs, hornpipes, and reels. You will learn a core repertoire that you can revisit and embellish as you develop on the instrument. In this fast moving class, we will introduce you to Irish musical culture and encourage you to attend an authentic pub session or two! This class is for students that have completed Fiddle 3 or have similar experience and want to focus on playing Irish music on the fiddle. It is helpful to have familiarity with reading music. This class explores the technique and extensive repertoire of traditional Irish fiddle. Students only take this class with a violin background or after multiple sessions in Fiddle 2, and students need to be able to read music or have a strong ear.
