Developing YOUR Sound in Old-Time Fiddling: A Workshop with Libby Weitnauer

In this workshop, Libby Weitnauer will help students approach the seemingly intimidating process of developing a personalized style in their old-time fiddling by exploring her own process. Students at all levels will dig into commonly asked questions about style. How do you create rhythmic and melodic variation in an old-time tune? How do you come up with bowings? How can you use recordings to shape your playing? The workshop will be a combination of listening, lecture, and playing, as Libby will take students through examples of recordings that most influenced her playing and break down her favorite moments for students. Students will then learn a very simple tune and apply some of the variations, in hopes they will gain tools to do this in their own practice.
