Jazz Improv Fundamentals: Listening and Playing

Learn to speak the language of jazz, develop your ears and heighten your musicianship. Investigate the chord/scale relationship, turnarounds, voice leading, jazz charts, new scales, and chord substitution. We will listen and analyze tunes in the style of standards, bebop, latin-jazz, blues, modal, and more.

Students should be familiar with basic theory, have functional reading skills and a desire to expand one’s musical horizons.
