Afro Colombian Dance

Revel in the history and learn three styles of dance of the Afro-Colombian community in San Basilio de Palenque. These dances include the Bullerengue and its various sub categories named Bullerengue Sentao, La Chalupa and the Fandango. The Bullerengue is a genre of music and dance from the Colombian Caribbean coast and from the province of Darien, Panama. It originated from the arrival of African slaves to northwestern Colombia and the Caribbean, who used drums, song, and dance to celebrate their new life and freedom there.

The other two dances are traditional rondas and games which include El Pavo y La Pava (the Gobbler and the Hen) and la Culebra (the Snake).
