Shanta Nurullah is known for her bluesy approach to the Indian sitar. She can help you learn the basics of the sitar and guide you in discovering your own style. Shanta is also your teacher if you want to explore the electric bass, the piano or desire to grow as a storyteller.
Shanta has been working professionally as a storyteller and musician for more than 40 years. She leads the band Sitarsys, and performs with ShaZah, Freedom Song Leaders, and the AACM’s Great Black Music Ensemble. She is a recent 3Arts Awardee, a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from M3/Mutual Mentorship for Musicians and the Zora Neale Hurston Award from the National Association of Black Storytellers.
