Katie DeSalvo

Dance

Katie grew up in a small town dancing a rich variety of performance genres such as ballet, jazz, and tap with a group called the On Broadway Dancers. This company instilled in her the love of expression and storytelling. As an adult, she gravitates toward the partnered dance styles in which two bodies can communicate and regulate with one another through rhythm. Her first social dance form was the merengue back in high school Spanish class. But her knowledge proliferated when she worked and danced competitively for an Arthur Murray studio from 2015-2017 as well as started choreographing musical theater for St. Pat’s High School and DePaul University (her alma mater). During that era, Katie was also a choreographer and performer with the contemporary dance group, Reveries in Motion. Presently, Katie is a mama to one creative 4-year-old, teaches dance independently and through studios such as Old Town School of Folk Music and Glenwood Dance Studio in Rogers Park, and enjoys the art of social dance forms such as tango, west coast swing, and bachata. Her highest values when it comes to teaching dance are inclusivity, authenticity, and connection. She hopes to continue uniting people to others and to their innermost selves through the art of dance.
