Piano
John is a very patient and caring teacher who makes every effort to help students play the songs and styles they want to play, while never losing focus on the basics of strong technique, rhythm, note reading and a solid understanding of chords and theory.
A jazz player with a love for pop music, John is known for his lyrical and understated style of playing. He has six recordings to his credit ranging in style from contemplative solo piano originals to unique jazz trio treatments of Christmas carols and hymns.
In addition to leading the John Erickson Trio, John has appeared with numerous artists throughout Chicago and beyond including Sunday Drive (a "dreamy jazz/pop mix" with fellow OTS faculty Jackie Jasperson and Tim Mulvenna), Sons of the Never Wrong, Steely Dan Tribute Bad Sneakers Orchestra, Nick Colionne, Bryan Lubeck, Stephanie Browning, and Typhanie Monique and Jamie O'Reilly. He can also be found most Sunday mornings providing music at Lake View Presbyterian Church.
