Joel Styzens is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer specializing in drums, piano, guitar, percussion, and hammered dulcimer.
Joel is a graduate of Millikin University where he studied Percussion, Music Business and piano.
He is also a recording artist and film composer -- composing music for a wide range of projects, including film, animation, television, and his own ensemble.
Joel has collaborated with musicians in every style from Jazz to Rock and enjoys incorporating all of the elements into his teaching.
Joel's teaching approach emphasizes the important foundation of rhythm on all instruments and in all music -- connecting the fundamentals to the music that each student personally enjoys.
Each student will develop and improve the following:
- Listening skills
- Rhythmic confidence
- Coordination
- Reading
- Musicality
- Phrasing
- Sense of time
- And technical skills in various areas & styles
