Canadian cellist George Crotty has forged his own exciting vocabulary. Known for an expressive fluidity and modal orientation, he makes music that is cinematic, collaborative, and conversational. His trio draws on influences within Indian raga, Arabic maqam, and modal jazz; using the language of other cultures to speak new things. “I'm not at home in any one culture,” muses Crotty, “so the trio became my home.” Crotty has performed across the Americas and western Europe including the Museo Nacional de Colombia, the Vancouver Jazz Festival, the New Directions Cello Festival, and the Vinterjazz Festival in Copenhagen.
