Say What You Mean/Mean What You Say: A Songwriting Workshop with Aurin Woods

In this 90 minute workshop, Aurin will explore the importance of phrasing, tone, and timbre as it relates to songwriting and song performance. By emphasizing meter, prose, and vocal acting, students will learn to merge writing technique with subtle and emotive vocal expression and bring their lyrics to life using the natural inflections of communication. This will all be addressed in the first part of class before the workshop truly begins and students get to implement these practices by volunteering their own work for feedback.

Students may bring in an existing composition or create from the writing prompts provided below. When it is time to share, Aurin and class will hyper-focus on 2-3 lines of each artist’s work. The writing prompts for this workshop are as follows:

1) Knowing something will never be the same between you and someone else
2) Embarking on a new experience
3) Returning to a familiar person/place/or thing

Learn to resonate deeper with yourself and your listener through this workshop with Aurin Woods.
