This piano lab class is for youth who have never taken piano before. In a group setting, students will work together on steady beat, understanding beat versus rhythm, understanding the musical alphabet, getting to know the piano keyboard, building music literacy skills, and understanding musical concepts of melody, beat, rhythm, tempo, and dynamics, important to learning piano.
Guided by an accomplished pianist as your teacher, young folks will progress as a group on piano skills as they prepare for Youth Piano 1. Our state of the art piano lab features eight Yamaha digital pianos with authentic sound, accurate pitch, and weighted keyboards. With a maximum of eight students, class size remains small allowing for individualized instruction.
None - this class is for young folks brand new to piano.
You should have a piano or keyboard for practice at home. Please purchase Alfred Chord Approach: Book One from the Old Town School store. The Old Town School store sells weighted keyboards. Because of the intimate and personalized class experience, if you need to miss class, please connect with your teacher about any missed material. While we don’t offer makeups in our Kids’ Music Program, we hope you can join us for complementary programs like The Saturday Jam or other social-music making at the school. These are important educational experiences for practice and play.
All students must have a piano or weighted keyboard for at home practice. A folder for take-home materials will be provided. Please also purchase Alfred Chord Approach, Book One from The Old Town School Store.
