Earl Scruggs was the father of Bluegrass Banjo and some of the best examples of his arrangements and original compositions can be found on the album “Foggy Mountain Banjo”. Using examples from this recording you will learn several tunes in G (some with a capo), Drop C, and open D. Some extra tunes not found on the recording may be added. Advanced techniques in back-up and improvisation will also be covered. Gain greater knowledge of the neck, play songs in high and low positions, and vamp on inversions. Some of the tunes: Home Sweet Home, Lonesome Road Blues, Fireball Mail, John Henry, and others.
Bluegrass Banjo 3 or ability to play hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides, read tab, and change from one roll pattern to another as the song dictates.
Students will need a copy of Earl Scruggs And The 5-String Banjo, which can be purchased at the Old Town School Music Stores.
