Go beyond chords with your accompanying parts. Composing a second part puts rhythm, melody, harmony and chord construction together in one supporting part. Fiddle tunes provide a great starting place for practicing second parts, and these parts can also be a great backdrop for many songs. Using written and listening examples, students will assemble and demonstrate three to four second parts together in class. A working knowledge of first position major scales and an interest in fiddle tune and melody playing are the only prerequisites.
