The Counterpoint Concepts Workshop will deal with one of the fundamental building blocks of making music, "Harmony”. Harmony is what happens when melodies intersect. Harmony is a result of counterpoint. Counterpoint is composition, and jazz is spontaneous composition. A few simple approaches can open several doors, and then you’re on your way. Each door opens into a room with more doors. The doors you choose to open lead you on your own path to your own sound and your own style.
Counterpoint will give you the much needed movement in your solo guitar arrangements and accompaniments that you've been wanting in your playing. This class will focus on simple devices you can immediately employ in your playing. Sid will provide every student with an in depth PDF packet of material that will keep you busy for some time.
An accomplished musician, teaching artist, and author, Sid Jacobs has been an essential part of the faculty at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles for decades. In addition to counterpoint concepts, Sid will share stories and lessons learned from the great counterpoint master, Jimmy Wyble. The Old Town School is delighted to offer this opportunity to our musical community.
