In his short and troubled life, the prolific songwriter Townes Van Zandt composed and recorded songs that established himself as a songwriter's songwriter, a masterful storyteller whose poignant songs of longing and despair were things of poetic beauty. In this workshop we will learn two of his classic songs and learn the fingerstyle guitar technique used in each song. In "I'll be Here in the Morning" Van Zandt's guitar accompaniment uses an alternating bass pattern incorporating specific melody notes on the treble strings. In "For the Sake of the Song" he uses a standard Calypso fingerpicking pattern throughout to carry the song.
