Mel Bay publishes one of the oldest guitar method books around. You know the one with the blue cover! They also publish many folk instrument method books from Banjo to Dulcimer. For people more "jazz-minded" they have a record label featuring John Pisano and other jazz guitar greats.

Hal Leonard has a good blend of both instrument methods and personality books. Many of the new and up and coming artists have books available from Hal Leonard. You know those books your father bought when he was going to learn banjo back in the '60s? Well, Music Sales offers most of those vintage titles and more, but with new shiny covers (not ones that smell like the attic).
