Institutional Giving Manager - Full-Time

The Old Town School of Folk Music seeks an Institutional Giving Manager to raise funds from institutions for our annual and capital campaigns, to work closely with School management and Board of Directors to develop and carry out a wide range of solicitation strategies.

Reporting to the Development Director, the Manager works with corporations and corporate foundations, government agencies and other sources, major national and regional foundations and smaller family foundations. The position will manage all aspects of grant writing, reporting, scheduling, and record keeping processes, from submitting LOIs to crafting final proposals, maintaining ongoing communications with appropriate grantor staff, creating and submitting required grant reports, and recognition fulfillment.

The Old Town School of Folk Music teaches and celebrates music and cultural expressions rooted in the traditions of diverse American and global communities. We provide nationally accredited classes in music, dance, theater, and visual arts to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. The School's critically acclaimed concerts showcase some of the finest and most diverse local and touring artists in our intimate and acoustically superb hall. Special events such as summer festivals and World Music Wednesdays make music accessible to all with free and reduced-priced programs.

The Old Town School of Folk Music has grown to become the largest independent community arts school in the United States with 350 staff and faculty members who serve 7,000 students per week with over 700 class offerings. The Old Town School attracts 3,000 members, 400 active volunteers, and an events audience of 85,000 per year. Youth outreach programs serve 2,400 children in 25 public schools, community centers, and care facilities across Chicago, and its field trip concert program attracts 9,000 students and teachers annually to weekday performances. The School owns and operates three North Side locations, including a state-of-the-art education facility opened in January of 2012.

Qualifications
  • Five years successful fund-raising experience, including prospect research and all steps in the grant process, preferably for a large cultural organization. Knowledge of and experience with the Chicago funding community preferred.
  • Must have exceptional writing skills and mastery of grant and proposal formats and styles.
  • Extensive experience with database management required (Raisers' Edge preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Must have an organized working method, rigorous attention to detail, and be able to handle pressure and changing priorities.
  • Must show initiative and scrupulously meet deadlines.

Bilingual Customer Service Associate - Part-Time

The Old Town School seeks a part-time Customer Service Associate. Responsibilities include registering students, selling tickets to concerts, answering incoming phone calls, and providing information to visitors.

Applicants must be friendly, articulate, detail-oriented and willing to pitch in where needed. Three years customer service experience and computer skills are required. Must be able to play at least one instrument at an intermediate level. Bilingual Spanish skills highly desired. An interest in art, dance, theater, and education is helpful.

Must be able to work Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. This is not optional.
