What an incredible experience! I would love to see some of the traditional Ghanaian dances that you learned, Diandra. Maybe a performance is in order?

  2. Alisa on October 12, 2007 8:47 pm

    Hilarious!

    Congratulations, Roger!

As I enjoyed the harmonica session with you and Skip last Sunday, I was impressed by your expressive way of playing the harmonica. Little did I know that I was watching and playing along with a premier economist that was to be told later that week he had won the Nobel Prize.

What a world this is when music unites the common folk with the uncommon.

Best of luck to you Roger both with your economics and harp.

I hope we can again share our music in another session.

    Bill

Hot Times, I’m wondering if that’s the same Irkins whose the lead singer and fiddler for the London band, the MacArthur Stewart Solicitors. Ya don’t suppose they’re serious about dropping in to the OTSFM. Is the cafe even open those nights. Maybe we could get a freebe concert. Floyd

This is a scam. We received the same inquiry. He wanted for us to charge a 3rd party CC for 10k and transfer 8k back to him. It is a identity theft ring.

We received the same inquiry via email. We tried to call the number provided and it does not work. The email read the same as above.

Great to keep up with the news from the old folks back home.

I miss the Old Town School and live in New York now. There is no Old Town School here or anywhere.

Mark is one of the (many) treasures at the OTSFM, and is a fantastic songwriter, teacher, and musician, and performer.

Mark is certainly deserving of this honor, and I just wanted to say congratulations to him and to the school; his accomplishments reflect very nicely on the other stellar folks who make up the Old Town School.

    Way to go, Mark!

I’m playing percussion for an American University group (UMass Dartmouth) where kids of all races are learning W. African dance. Some of them are very good, some come back semester after semester to remain part of it and are called “the veterans” and are really excellent and some–well, they’re young people and maybe not the best. But we get together with a man who has studied world music in the jazz idiom and works with a Ghanaian dancer who is, even with bad knees, just incredible to watch.

If it’s possible for you to tour doing your kind of dance and W. African styles you could have quite a show. Good for you and your work.

… and while you’re eating this fine delicacy, you can stop by Ben Harbert’s website and say hello.

Skip this is great. Good to keep in touch with School’s activities.
