Having some trouble accessing the tune. Sad day.

  2. Maria on February 29, 2008 12:38 pm

I’m so excited about this, Paul!

  3. Maria on March 5, 2008 12:31 pm

    Hi!

I was told I would need to buy Quicktime pro to download the tunes on my Mac, so I’m using a program I have called Wire Tap Pro to record the tunes and then put them in my itunes folder…

    Maria :)

  4. Paul on March 5, 2008 2:53 pm

You should not have to buy a program to do that.

But I have two questions. 1) What browser do you use on your Mac? and 2) Where did you get Wire Tap Pro?

    Paul

  5. Paul on March 5, 2008 2:57 pm

This should be all fixed now. Also you might want to check out the post titled “Playing and Downloading” for tips. It’s filed under the “Tunes” category.

  6. Miles Mibeck on March 5, 2008 11:16 pm

I was able to download all the Paddy Jones songs. The files were crystal clear and I used windows media player to then burn them onto a blank CD.

    This is awesome! Thanks Paul!

  7. Paul on March 6, 2008 12:31 am

    Enjoy.

  8. Lynn "Chirps" Smith on March 6, 2008 8:31 am

Looks like it’s off to a great start! I look forward to playing at the Fiddle Club on 4/20/08.

Love the Paddy Jones stuff. Wending my way through the web, I happened on this site. What a great concept, the Fiddle Club of the World – Nice job, Paul! Wish I lived near Chi.

    Kenny,
Glad you found us. Maybe we can franchise a North Carolina chapter?

  11. Krissy Kirlin on March 6, 2008 11:07 am

If you’re using a Mac, all you need to do is right-click the link and choose “Download Linked File.” The song will pop onto your desktop, and you can drop it into iTunes — even directly into a playlist, if you want to organize it in that way. Hope this helps!

  12. Paul on March 6, 2008 11:24 am

    Thanks Krissy
I didn’t know you could right click on a Mac.

  13. Lillian on March 8, 2008 11:52 am

    Hey,
my computer is not capable of downloading much, if anything. Are these recordings available at the Resource Center?

    Thanx,
    Lillian

  14. Paul on March 9, 2008 8:35 am

I’ll set something up there on Monday.
    Paul

  15. Gail on March 11, 2008 1:23 pm

I’m going to try Krissy’s suggestion – if you have a mouse that right clicks, you can right click. Other wise, hitting Alt-Option key at the same time you click the mouse is the same as right click. This I learned from Runescape.

It was superb. Paddy is playing tonight at the Heartland Cafe at 8 p.m. http://www.heartlandcafe.com/hc_index.htm

    Fiddlers,
Did I get your names right. (Let your cursor hover over the photo for the names to magically appear.)

    Let me know.

These links don’t seem to work. They are short snippets of introducing the tune.

  20. Paul on March 27, 2008 6:22 pm

What web browser are you using? See above for “Click here for tips” I can guarantee that the tunes can all be downloaded to your computer. Playing them in your browser is more of a problem. I blame Quicktime.

Wonderful. What good work to be doing, Paul. And surely great fun. Makes me wish (almost) I lived in Chicago.

This was a great night! I can’t wait until Saturday!

  23. Lynn "Chirps" Smith on May 8, 2008 7:36 am

Thanks to Paul for having me play at the Fiddle Club. I had a blast!
About “Paddy on the Turnpike”: I learned it from a recording (LP) of Thomas Hal “Tommy” Hunter. He was from around Mars Hill, NC in beautiful Madison, Co. I played this LP for Rhys Jones many years ago and he learned this and another, “Big Cabin”, both of which he recorded on one of his projects.
Thanks to those that came out to my WI house for my session. There will be more I’m sure.

Hi Paul! What a great idea this is! What are your future programs? Would love to try to go, it is like a Tionol for the fiddle instead of the Uilleann Pipes!

  25. Ray Banks on June 18, 2008 10:22 am

I’m an Old Time enthusiast from the UK who plays a little fiddle (and more banjo), and who visits Clifftop and Mount Airy when he can.
I love hearing the tunes on this excellent website.

Can we get copies of Gems of the Ballroom?

I liked playing these songs, although the D.C. notes don’t make sense to me.

  31. Ed on September 5, 2008 7:32 pm

I am here with the great-daughter who is 102 years old. And doing very well I’ve seen some of the paper and pictures. Her name is Ina Maude Beaubien DeLapp. If you have and email I would like to email you a picture of her she is amazing.

  32. Paul on September 6, 2008 7:54 am

Gems of the Ballroom is hard to find. I only know of a few people who have copies. I’d recommend getting the Les Raber tune book and recordings. He played most of the best tunes from the Gems.

  33. Paul on September 6, 2008 7:59 am

    Ed,
    email me at ptyler@oldtownschool.org

Does Ms. DeLapp know anything about Alexander Beaubien, who was also a fiddler and may have still been playing when she was little. Was he son or grandson of Mark? Or of Jean-Baptiste? He was a Chicago policeman or fireman.

    Thanks.

    Hey Paul–

I loved hearing Jabbour/Perlman! And would love to have some recordings of them (esp. W. Virginia Gals, my fave) on the site, if you have any good ones.

you dont need to buy a program…..
    no buying involved….. no quicktime
you dont even need to down the 7.0 version of quicktime……or whatever….

    real simple

put mouse on the text’s blue link
    (right click)

    go to save target as

    hit save SAVE

then it will say right in middle
of save box after its saved

    open—– open folder—– cancel

    hit…… open folder
then hit the icon it produces

    right mouse button go to

    open with…….

Itunes, Windows Media player, or whatever your preferred protocol is…….

If you get it into I-Tunes you can convert it to WAV or other tune file types.

That should work….but if it doesnt work….. find me at even and ill burn it to CD’s for anybody who wants
    to study it.

    there’s some good fiddlin!
