He learned it from Albert & Effie Daugherty when he was in high school in Paoli, Indiana back in about 1931. It was also out on record then, as a song by the Pickard Family. Bye-Bye, My Honey (I’m Gone) – slow Week 2 was another tune in D. This one was made up circa 1980 by a friend of ours, Peter Lippincott. He’s a musician and square dance caller from St. Louis, now living in Arkansas. Mel learned it from his father, also named Mel. They also called the tune Whoa Mule, Till I Get Your Bridle On. The recording of Mel was made in Malibu, California at a dance weekend in 1994.
