Fiddle 4 Old-Time (Tue) – week 1

Work on the shuffle pattern (aka single shuffle, Nashville shuffle)
for each beat long-short-short = slur-saw-saw
accented first saw stroke with alternate between up and down

Though Lotus was my mentor. my playing of the tune is not a copy. For one thing, we started on different strains.

Rush and the Pepper played by Garry Harrison, originally of Charleston, Illinois

Rush and the Pepper medium

Garry learned Rush and the Pepper from Jesse James Abbott of Toledo, Illinois back in the 1970s. He recorded the tune with the Indian Creek Delta Boys. Lots of folks have learned it from Garry. A few years ago he published a book and CD collection of Illinois songs and tunes. Mr. Abbott’s playing of the tune can be heard on the the Dear Old Illinois CD.
