Fiddle 4 & 2: our Finnish quadrille

Wow, I just found a great duet version of Prizhan Katrilli on a recording given to me in Tallin, Estonia by Jaan Elgula, who produces country music shows for Estonian state radio. I don’t know if this was a commercially released recording or just something these two guys did. They both played in Jaan’s country band, Justament, but they both are fine traditional fiddlers. Here they are.

Fiddle for Kansanmusiikkiopisto in Helsinki

Welcome Finnish friends. Here are links to the tunes we worked on last Monday evening.
For Old Town School folks, Kansanmusiikkiopisto translates as ‘folk music school.’ They’re like us.

To learn more about our visit to Finland, and to hear our 2nd Half with the students at Kansanmusiikkiopisto, visit the Old Town School On the Road blog and scroll to the bottom of Finnish Americana, Part II.

Try this link for the Hands On CD/jukebox. There are tracks there with two speeds for both Waterbound and Goin’ Down to Cairo. This CD featured Colby Maddox on mandolin and Paul Tyler on fiddle, along with two fellow teachers on banjo and guitar.

And here is another demonstration for Goin’ Down to Cairo, two tempos in one sound file.
(Press the arrow to listen, or right click the red title and choose ’save link’ to download.)

NB: This link is now working.

White River Bottoms comes from Lotus Dickey of Orange County, Indiana. You can learn more about him at the Fiddle Club of the World blog. There’s a lot of great stuff there. Help yourself. And I plan to add more from my Nordic trip.

These demonstration recordings were made by Paul Tyler.

Fiddle 4 Global – Week 7

Hi!

Here’s the link for La Cirereta

and……here are your lyrics

(in Catalan)

Un peto mai no fa mal si va de veres
per aixo diuen que els petons i les cireres
despres dun en venen molts. Noia, noia, so no vols;
Noia, si no vaols pols no vagis a l’era

t’ompliria de petons i d’abracades

The chorus in Spanish is:

Deja besarte chiquilla
tus labios rojos
como cerezas
Quiro llevar de tus labios
Miles de amores y de ternesas

Fiddle 2 (Thur) Week 6

Hi!

It was really fun to meet you last week!

I’ve posted La Cucaracha, just fiddle and guitar

and I’ve also posted it with singing, La Cucaracha (playin’ and singin’)

Here are the words to the chorus:

La Cucaracha, la cucaracha
Ya no puede caminar
Porque no tiene, porque le faltan
Alitas para volar (or las patas pa’ caminar)

Enjoy!

Love,

Maria :)

P.S. See you at the jam on Thursday @ 7pm
