Old Time Ensemble (Wed) – Week 3“Liberty” is an old melody that was not recorded until the late 1930s. It became a standard in the fiddle reportoire largely because of the the 1950s recording by Tommy Jackson, a well-respected Nashville sideman who recorded a lot of square dance tunes for the Dot label. Here’s the earliest recording . . . Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys (This is what is called Western Swing.) A bluegrass version by David Hall of Monticello, Indiana. And finally, the version in G by Lloyd Kilts of Grand Rapids, Michigan. BTW The Fantastic Toe Trippers Orchestra will be playing a bunch of fine dance tunes from at least three continents at the Heartland Cafe this Thursday (May 14th) between 8:00 and 10:30 pm. Directions to the Heartland are here. Filed under: Old Time Ensemble,Paul Tyler by Paul | May 13, 2009 | Comments (0) Classes
