Fiddle 4 Cajun – Week 1

For session 2009.2 we’ll do Cajun tunes every Tuesday from 8 to 9:20. The session starts this week. Openings are available. We’ll learn waltzes and two-steps. We’ll work on playing chords or double stops as a “second fiddler.” And we’ll learn how to play around the melody and give it some variety.

The first tune up is the Cajun national anthem, “Jolie Blonde” or “Pretty Blonde”

Here are three versions for your listening pleasure. (The first two are links to the iTunes store.)

Jolie Blonde by the Hackberry Ramblers, 1963

Jolie Blonde Du Bayou by Dewey Balfa & Marc Savoy, 1977

Jolie Blonde by Al Berard & Friends, 1999
(This last one is from a great CD from Swing Cat Enterprises. It can be purchased here.)

See you in class on Tuesday.
