Back from their second tour through Mexico in early 2018, ESSO Afrojam Funkbeat are set for a busy year in the states and abroad behind 2017's sensual full length studio album "Juntos" (Sonic Octopus Records). The band balance their time on the road with select appearances in their home city of Chicago, while collaborating with national and local organizations to perform for social justice programs and community events around the US. They return to Old Town School's Szold Hall for a Global Dance Party with a very special show.
ESSO performs Afro-Latin and roots rock inspired dance music. Described by national outlets as tropical funk and caribbean dance, the ethnically diverse crew of urban musicians, lead by guitarist/composer producer Armando Pérez, establish pulsing polyrhythmic beats while combining swirling wah guitar, deep bass, brass horns, group singing, and spoken word poetry all in a raw eclectic mix of fresh energetic sounds. All members bring a vital musical contribution to the band's unique "afrojam funkbeat" distinction. Inspired by Chicago's storied soulful blues, legendary jazz house, and global fusion groudbreakers, the group deliver their performances with purpose and verve: unifying listeners through music, dance, and collaborative spirit.
