Guitar, Songwriting Steve has been playing guitar and writing songs for nearly 30 years and has been performing professionally since 1987. As a singer-songwriter he has written and recorded 5 critically acclaimed albums with his band, Dolly Varden, and a solo album, “Sweet Is The Anchor”. A second solo album, “I Will Miss The Trumpets And The Drums” (Undertow) will be released in early 2010. Steve has toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe with Dolly Varden, sharing the stage with artists such as Ryan Adams, Alejandro Escovedo, Andrew Bird, Jay Bennett, Robbie Fulks, Alison Moorer, Jesse Harris, Rodney Crowell, Bill Mallonee, and many others. In the late 80s Dawson studied Jazz composition and guitar at the Berklee School of Music in Boston and later, while under contract with PolyGram music in the early 90s, spent time in Nashville co-writing songs for country artists. Currently he is under contract with Bug Music and his songs have been used in several independent feature films, on the Discovery channel, Nickelodeon and MTV. He is well versed in rhythm and lead guitar, song structure and music theory. He brings years of experience singing, playing and writing to his lessons and classes.
